AV Equipment

I've been meaning to compile my AV equipment collection here for a while.
I'm still figuring out how I want to organize it, but here's a good start.

What I'm using now

Bedroom

In my bedroom, I'm running a 4.1 surround sound setup. This is my primary system, although not the most performant.

First receiver was Sony CMT-SBT100.

This Sony CMT-SBT100 was my first stereo in my room. It's still there, but I don't use it much at all.

Current TV is an old 720p Insignia 24 or 27 inch LED LCD dumb TV

I would like to mount a bigger tv at the top of the wall at some point.

Current receiver is a Denon s960h.

This receiver is awesome! Super powerful, super clean. Plenty of features and options.

Current main front speakers are the Insignia 2-way indoor/outdoor speakers.

These are super underrated.

Current surrounds are some KLH single driver bookshelf speakers.

I have them on the shelf under the end-tables next to my bed, so whether I'm laying down, or sitting up, they're always behind my ears.

Current subwoofer is a Polk PSW10.

Around 40-250hz range. (I have crossed over at like 160ish) And of course it has that beautiful Polk sound!

My bedroom desktop speakers are Dell-branded Altec Lansing's.

I recently repaired a pair with a broken aux cable and stress-tested them. Turns out the power brick is the weakest link (the power light dims under load). After swapping in a beefier 12V 4A supply, they hit 97 dB! Fun tip: taping over the rear ports slightly tightens the sound and improves the bass.

Desk

At my desk, I'm also running a 4.1 surround sound setup, but with way different parts.

Previous receiver was Pioneer VSX-524-K

This was my first receiver (aside from the Sony CMT-SBT100) I ever owned. A friend had it in his garage on the shelf, and I was like "Oh cool, what's that" and he was like "You want it?" so yeah. I ran it for a while before upgrading to the Sony. I still have it but am not currently using it.

Current TV is a old 1080p (2018? era) 32-inch Samsung Smart TV.

Current receiver is a Sony STR-DN1070.

It's not flagship but it's nice! One of my favorite things about this receiver is the volume leveling. With the way I have it set up, I can watch YouTube at 6:00 in the morning and not worry about ads waking people up because it automatically balances the volume!

Sony SS-CMX500U Bookshelf Speakers

Sony SS-CBX77 Bookshelf Speakers

The rears are a pair of Sony 2-way bookshelf speakers I got from a thrift shop.

I believe they are the SS-CMX500U model, which are built like the SS-CBX77, which you can see without the cloth here. I can see the white drivers and the front porting on mine (but mine has permanently attached speaker wire), which leads me to think this.

Desktop speakers are Harman/Kardon HK-206.

It's nice to have big speakers, but it's also sometimes nice to have small speakers. That's where these come in. These plain old desktop speakers actually sound decent, especially with a little help from some EQing.

Other Equipment

JVC RX-5V (1987) Stereo Receiver

Such a cool piece of equipment! The RX-5V puts out around 65 W per channel with a 10 Hz–50 kHz response and 0.005% THD, giving it that clean, warm JVC sound. It’s loaded with multiple phono inputs, including a phono input with a built-in preamp for your turntable. It even has Effect Out/In jacks for an EQ or other processors. The graphic EQ offers five factory presets and five user-defined slots for perfect tone shaping. With its pretty amber backlighting and computer-controlled analog signal path, you get true analog clarity with digital precision from controls that’ll never go scratchy.
Mine does unfortunately have some issues. Cold solder joints were common with these units. But I plan on bringing it to may favorite shop to get it fully repaired and running like it did back in the day! Maybe I'll get some late 1980's or early to mid 1990's Hi-Fi speakers to go with it...

Altec Lansing 2.1 Computer Speaker System

Not being used, but it does work (one cable is sometimes finicky but who cares). Sounds really good.
